In comparison to the 0.53 million commercially imported mobile devices during the first six months of 2023, local manufacturing facilities in Pakistan produced or assembled 6.07 million units.
In comparison to the 0.12 million commercially imported mobile devices during June 2023, local manufacturing facilities produced or assembled 1.19 million of them.
The 6.07 million mobile phone devices, 4.77 million of which were 2G and 1.3 million of which were smartphones, were made or built locally. Additionally, 44% of mobile devices on the Pakistani network are 2G, according to data from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), while 56% of mobile devices are smartphones.
In comparison to the $1.978 billion imported during the fiscal year 2021-22, the country’s mobile phone imports totaled $570.071 million during the fiscal year 2022–23 (FY23). This represents a decline of 71.19 percent.
According to information made available by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), Pakistan’s mobile phone imports climbed by 24.03 percent month over month (MoM) in June 2023 and totaled $53.583 million as opposed to $43.201 million in May 2023.
In June 2023, mobile phone imports totaled $66.30 million, up 66.30 percent year over year (YoY) from $32.220 million in June 2022.
Overall telecom imports increased by 11.18 percent year over year, from $86.777 million in June 2022 to $96.481 million in June 2023. On a month-over-month basis, June 2023’s total telecom imports increased by 19.07 percent from $81.028 million in May 2023. Other apparatus imports decreased by 45.16 percent from $705.353 million in July through June of FY22 to $386.850 million in July through June of FY23.
Other apparatus imports totaled $42.898 million in June 2023, representing a 21.37 percent decline from $54.557 million in June 2022 and a 13.41 percent increase from $37.827 million in May 2023 on a monthly basis.
