After 28 hours of discussion during the three-month trial at Leicester Crown Court, the jury returned its decision. The victims, 21-year-old Saqib Hussain and Hashim Ijazuddin, died in February 2022 after their automobile was rammed off the road.
The 24-year-old TikTok influencer Mahek Bukhari set up a trap for Saqib Hussain by luring him to a meeting under false pretenses, according to evidence presented during the trial. According to the prosecution, Hussain had threatened to come forward with information about an affair he had with Mahek Bukhari’s mother, Ansreen Bukhari.
Two cars driven by co-defendants Rekhan Karwan and Raees Jamal chased after the victims’ car, the court heard. The chasers rammed the victims’ car, causing it to crash into a tree, split in half, and catch fire. Prior to the collision, Saqib Hussain, who was riding in the front seat, called 999 in a panic and begged for assistance as the attackers tried to push their car off the road.
